Uh oh. I don’t know what I said, but it was either the wrong message or one poorly expressed.
We do that all the time…communicate in our terms and to fulfill our own needs and in ways comfotable to us. The only problem was that the person with whom I was pretending to communicate…is my wife. OUCH!
I recently read a blog post at SmallBizTrends.com that brought this lesson clearly into the realm of business. Sales: It’s About Them Not You offers some valuable insights on fulfilling and rewarding relationships. I encourage you to read it and to adapt it concepts to all your relationships.
(Yes…I read it AFTER the faux pas with my wife, unfortunately. )
Here’s to better formulated messages and a keen eye on the real goal of the process: for the other person(s) to know that you, and I, are really concerned about their needs/problems/challenges/dilemmas…and REALY are present to help them!
Best,
Michael
